Further Proof That I Have Too Much Time On My Hands

Tomorrow is Caroline’s soccer team’s last game.   As a general rule, cupcakes are the perfect way to celebrate the end of a great season.  Actually, if you ask me, cupcakes are a great for any occasion; even non occasions.  I mean really?  What goes better with the trophy your parents had to pay $7.35 for (that will soon end up stuffed in a box somewhere out of sight by a clutter hating mother) than a cupcake?

As snack mom for this game, I’ve taken it upon myself to bake the cupcakes.  I *could* order bakery cupcakes decorated with all sorts of soccer paraphernalia, but instead I chose the home made route.  Actually, in the spirit of full disclosure, I’m using a boxed mix (funfetti!) for the cupcakes, but I am making home made frosting. Really? Is there anything better than home made frosting?  Uh, I think not. Don’t get me wrong, I love to take my spoon for a dip in the Betty Crocker frosting tub every now and then, but home made IS better.  Don’t even try to argue with me on this point; I know of what I speak.

Since I’m lame and can’t do fancy soccer themed decorations on my cupcakes, I’ve opted to use team colored sprinkles.  I think all 8 year old girls can appreciate a sprinkle or two.  Especially color coordinated sprinkles.

The trouble is that it’s hard to find green and white sprinkles any time other than March.  I searched high and low for green sprinkles, but I’m afraid I wasn’t very successful.  The stores carry green colored sugar, but I didn’t want green colored sugar (too crunchy), I wanted green sprinkles.

Despite my disappointment over my futile search for green sprinkles, I decided to use my wits and went the long and tedious route.

I bought two bottles of multi colored snowflake sprinkles and got to sorting.

Yep, I picked out all the green and white sprinkles from the two bottles.

I’m not sure why I bothered with such a tedious task, because I’m sure the girls really don’t care that much if their sprinkles don’t match their soccer jerseys, but, as you  can clearly see, I’m a little obsessive at times.

I suppose after today’s sprinkle sorting, no one could ever doubt my loyalty to the Crocs soccer team.  Does that make me a true soccer mom?

In other news, I’ve been kind of busy today.  Or so it seems.

According to Craig, the goodies I baked yesterday were quite a hit, which always makes me happy to hear.  The caramel apple squares were especially delicious and actually quite easy to make.  Well, except for the part where my bag of caramel drizzle didn’t fully cooperate and I ended up with more of a caramel pond than a drizzle.  That’s okay, they still tasted great.

Tomorrow I’m getting up early to bake these pumpkin cream cheese muffins for the Veteran’s Day celebration at Caroline’s school.  Fairfax County doesn’t give the students a day off, but Caroline’s school makes up for it by putting on a really nice event to honor the veterans in our local area.   I have to be at the school at 8 am and it appears that I’ll be there for quite awhile.  Between standing by the baked goods table, looking cheerful and gracious, stuffing two classes worth of Thursday folder papers and joining Caroline in the cafeteria for the loudest lunch known to man, I’ll be pretty busy at the skool.

And then I have to come home and bake, frost and decorate (with my hard earned green and white sprinkles) cupcakes.

No complaints, though.

This is fun stuff.
