Fourth Grade

Well, today was the big day:  the first day of fourth grade.

It rained all night and the air was chilly this morning; I’m not sure I can ever remember not sweating as we walked to school on the first day of the new year.

We weren’t going to let a little rain damper our spirits.  In fact, I kind of love rain, so the grey clouds and drizzle falling from the sky only made me love this day more.

Like usual, Caroline rose early in anticipation of the big day.  This allowed us plenty of time to have our traditional back to school photo shoot.

Sure, there was a smile hidden in the picture up above, but we weren’t all smiles this morning.  School kind of puts a damper on the kid-of-leisure status Caroline was working so fervently on this summer.

Poor kid.  It’s back to the daily grind.

Don’t worry, she wasn’t all frowns and self-pity this morning.  There was some dancing, too.

This is her signature ‘look at my socks’ move.   It’ll be the latest dance craze before we know it.

Nevermind the fact that one sock is turned inside out.  They’re blue (Caroline’s favorite color) and that’s all that matters.

And then she got bored.

So we grabbed her bag, lunch and shoes and hit the road.

The first day is over and I think it was a success.  Caroline says her teacher is nice and funny, which is always a good sign.  He loves ice cream and has a fish named Lenny.  What more could you ask for in a teacher?

Hooray for fourth grade!
